For well over a century, the G. Schirmer edition of 24 Italian Songs and Arias of the 17th and 18th Centuries has introduced millions of beginning singers to serious Italian vocal literature. Offered in two accessible keys suitable for all singers, it is likely to be the first publication a voice teacher will ask a first-time student to purchase. The classic Parisotti realizations result in rich, satisfying accompaniments which allow singers pure musical enjoyment. For ease of practice, carefully prepared accompaniments are also recorded on CD by John Keene, a New York-based concert accompanist and vocal coach who has performed throughout the United States for radio and television. Educated at the University of Southern California, Keene has taught accompanying at the university level and collaborated with Gian Carlo Menotti and Thea Musgrave on productions of their operas.
Not useful for a beginner
| Customer Rating:  | I sing in a choir and can read music, but I can't sing a "D" when I see a "D". Because the CD plays the accompanient, I have no idea what are the notes I'm supposed to sing. So this purchase was pretty useless to me.
This product would probably be better for someone more advanced. |

Yes, I purchased the newer versions of the "classic" Italian songs, and use the intro materials and some of the ornamentation, but the piano accompaniments in the Schirmer are much more musical, and this is still my favorite version of any of the anthologies of Italian songs. |

| Customer Rating: | This was my first book given to me as a voice student when I was 11 years old. I have since 26 years later both sung and taught out of this book regularly. I can't imagine my music library without it. These are great classical songs for any novice and continue to be a great reference as warm up arias for the more advanced singer.

Well worth the money...
| Customer Rating: | | A great introduction to the vast body of Italian repertoire. Some of the tempos on the accompaniment CD are a little fast (perhaps just my taste). This is a book you will go back to again and again; the material is appropriate for church, weddings, recitals, etc. A great learning tool. |
