All the Wizard Books I have purchased have made our trips more enjoyable to the islands and given us such insite that we never miss a good place to snorkel, eat, watch a sunset, lava flow or just learn more about the islands...don't travel without them....their website is also fantastic.
best hawaii tour book ever

I have been vacationing on the big island for 10 years now, making the annual trip to visit relatives at christmas time.
this book is the ONLY big island guide that does it justice. highly recommended!

We loved this book that was so honest and took us to places we might not have known about. I'll use it again when we return to the Big Island. I would recommend it to anyone over other guide books for sure. We used this author for Kuai'i also, and it was wonderful!
My only recommendations to others is that many of the 4x4 roads addressed in this book, 1/2 of them take so long to traverse that you need to make sure the destination is worth you time. Many times we were on 2-3 wheels and biting our nails. Now don't get me wrong, it was fun and we still talk about it. But not sure those slow slow drives were worth 2/3 of our day.
Don't go to the Big Island without this book. It was just wonderful in all the little hidden gems and really made our trip wonderful!
Most Useful Tool

Very comprehensive. It contains more than just the typical travel info. The comments like this lagoon is cleaner than that one will make a big difference in our trip. They tell you when the go to a spot to miss the crowds and which spots are frequented only by the locals. Any travel book will tell you how to get to a town, but this one tells you whether or not the town is hospitable. It is that type of comment which sets this book apart. I also liked the way they gave directions based on the mile markers at the side of the highway. You don't need a GPS when they say to turn left onto the dirt road 100 feet past mile marker 20. There is just a hint of humor in a few places - not too much like some books. There are helpful hints and just the right amount of detail and history of the area to inform you without booring you. Overall, a well written book that will be at our side when we go to Hawaii.
Don't go to hawaii without it

Excellant book, lots of helpful info. The only think lacking would be a detailed complete map of the island ( to be fair it does include a full map of the island, just not as detailed as a regular roadmap.) We will definately purchase again, especially if going to any of the other islands.
