Don't leave without it!!!
Awesome book- we carried it all over Paris and saw other people carrying it and walking the routes, lol. I did find the Ru Cler walk a bit disappointing- way too crowded and the merchants a little over run. But- we found another great place with the same type shoppes, just a little lower key. I advise finding your own "picnic supplies" places. The book was great for the museums, the prices were very accurate, as was the transportation info. Fantastic book!
Good Guide But Not Good on Kindle
I have long used and appreciated the Rick Steves guidebooks, and thought having them on my Kindle would be an excellent way to save luggage weight and space on trips. However, on the Kindle the guides are disappointing. The neat walking tour maps that are so informative in print are so small they're unreadable on the Kindle; similarly, photo quality is very poor and there is no way to zoom these graphics. In addition, the guide text is organized so that what are "sidebar" articles in print require a link and a jump to another page on the Kindle and navigating these links on the Kindle is clunky and slow. I like my Kindle for novels but for guidebooks like the Rick Steves series, you are better off with the print edition.

Brilliant! Buy This One!
I've been traveling for the past 40 years and started out with Europe on $5 A Day. This book ranks in the top 5 of any guidebook I've ever used. For most of the past 20 years, I've been a Lonely Planet fan, but lately their books have been a disappointment, so I thought I'd branch out a bit and try several books (including LP) on this current trip to Europe. I haven't purchased a Rick Steve's book since Europe 101 back in 1985. My bad. The Paris book is so incredibly well-organized and really focuses on the top attractions. If you've been to Paris a dozen times, you might want more detail, but for a first or second time visitor, I doubt that any book would be more useful. Various tips not only saved the cost of the book several times over, but also that most valuable of commodities, my time. For instance, the book advises that if you get to Versailles after it opens, it's best to visit the gardens first and then double back to the Palace after 1PM. When we arrived around 10:30, the security line was over 1,000 people long, so we hit the gardens virtually alone and by the time we were ready for the Palace at 1:30PM, the line was less than 20 people. Not only did we get something close to a private garden visit, but we also visited the Palace without getting jostled about by tour groups; oh, and we saved at least an hour standing in a long line. Be sure to check out the free tours offered on RS's website; we downloaded four tours to our Ipods and saved around 18 euros versus the cost of the stuffy audio guides at the Louvre, Orsay and Versailles. While there isn't as much detail in the free audio versions, we found them most adequate as well as memorable. I won't visit Europe again without the latest Steves books.
Rick Steves' Paris 2010
Rick Steves' books are always reliable, particularly in the daily useful information they provide. We go to Paris fairly often and know a good deal about it and how to navigate it, but his book provided us with new information, such as new hours for openings and closings of museums and markets, what preparations to make in the event of an announced strike, what options were available in public transportion ticketing, the places to pick up tickets other than the metro and train stations, etc. I always try to get a new copy of his book on any place we're expecting to travel. Well worth the money.
