Entertaining collection of stories written by a safari guide
Awesome book. The only book that my wife and I ever fought over because we each wanted to read it. It's a collection of tales told by a Botswana safari guide about animals, tourists, fellow guides, etc. All of whom often do the very unexpected.
Not that great
I was very disappointed in this book. I felt that the author carried an unpleasant attitude toward the very people who made his job possible - his customers. Maybe I am overly sensitive, being a safari customer myself, but it sounded as if all of his customers were rude, or hard to please or not properly appreciative of the experience he was guiding. I don't think that is true or he would not have been employed for long. I was hoping for a book that expressed the joy and wonder of being among these wonderful animals and in this amazing country. The author said he felt that way, but the feeling was not conveyed in his writing.
The-can't-put-it-down, Trying-not-to-wake-others-while-I-laugh, Action/Adventure Book you've been looking for
Perhaps a more apt title for this book would be "What ARE you reading?" because I kept being asked that while I was busy consuming this & laughing. A delightfully amusing collection of adventures & anecdotes about the dangers & delights of the African bush that begs to be shared. The writer offers a self-effacing ride through a Botswana preserve, where he worked as a Safari Guide. This is a true original.
If you have a pulse and any interest whatsoever in animals, nature, or Africa -or know anyone that does... then treat them to this book!
a fun read!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It's filled with great stories... information regarding animal beahviors mixed with humor. Right up my alley!
A funny slice of safari life
WOW. This book is a winner. It's funny, well narrated, and thoroughly entertaining. Having had the fortune of staying at Mambo, the Botswana camp where Peter worked most of his time and at the center of the narrative, this book adds a new dimension of the experience. Bravo!
