One of the Better Morocco Guides
Lonely Planet's newest Morocco Travel Guide does a nice job of condensing the best places to see in Morocco; it even outlines some of the better places to go trekking, such as Mgoun National Park. I live and work in Morocco with an eco-travel company and we recommend this particular guide on Amazon.com to those who want to research the country and places to see. From Fez to Marrakesh and even highlighting some places of interest in Western Sahara (see Allah's Garden, a nonfiction account set in the region), Lonely Planet is unparalleled in their in-country research, facts, and even some off-the-beaten-path locales.
Excellent and detailed information
I particularly like the approach this book has about the special cultural concerns and attitudes of Morocco. I bought this book because I borrowed it from the library and really liked it; I didn't want to return it, so I got my own! I will take it when I go to Morocco--high praise, indeed, as I prefer to travel light.
Not great for backpackers
I've used quite a few Lonely Planet guides in the past for France, Italy, New Zealand, and Spain. I used this guide on my backpacking trip to Morocco and I was fairly disappointed.
For a backpacker interested in lower cost options, this guide generally lacks them. In fact many of the Author's Recommendations on accommodations are over 700 dhm a night, that is about what I would spend in several days for everything food, accommodation, and transport.
Mistakes included poor recommendations, bad price ranges, missing transportation options, and lots of mistakes in the maps. The maps for the Imlil / Oukaimeden areas are poor. Their warning about not using them for navigation should be taken seriously. Trails are roads and roads are trails.
I also had access to a Rough Guide Morocco for this trip and it was not a great improvement. In fact the book's binding fell apart after a few days. It is also bloated with lots of useless info, and is thus almost twice as think as the lonely planet guide. It does have a much better section on the south and Western Sahara.
If you feel that you need a guide, then buy an old used guide and save yourself some money.
Saved my butt a few times!
The Lonely Planet series never disappoints. It always has great information and tips that really help out. I like how honest the writers are about both the positive and negative aspects of the places they are reviewing. When travelling the books become my number 1 resource.
Very Useful
This is yet another informative and useful travel guide from Lonely Planet. Almost all the descriptions are very detailed and accurate. I recently came back from a rather short, but power packed tour of Morocco and this guide helped me plan the trip very well.
The supplemental information about the food, sweets, history and culture is very helpful.
It only seems to lack in providing a list of tour companies that can arrange trips into Sahara. It is very difficult for a solo backpacker to plan a trip to the desert without being ripped by the travel agents and the so called faux guides.
