Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryAfter meals from garbage cans and dumpsters, night after night Mike and Sam found their beds under bridges and on the streets. They were forced to depend on the generosity and kindness of strangers as they panhandled to sustain their existence. For more than five months, the pair experienced firsthand the extreme pains of hunger, the constant uncertainty and danger of living on the streets, exhaustion, depression, and social rejection–and all of this by their own choice. This is their story. Through Mike’s firsthand account, Under the Overpass provides important insight into the truths of the street and calls the younger generation of believers to take great risks of faith to bring Christ’s love to the neediest corners of the world. |

INSPIRING & ENLIGHTENING
I read this book so fast. It gives a great perspective of the homeless and really opened my eyes to the way that I and others treat those on the side of the road.
Under the Overpass
Have not read this book yet, but need to for my book club in April.
Looking forward to the content of this book, and hearing firsthand what it is like to live homeless. This book should change some of my preconceived ideas about the kind of life the homeless live.
So good!
This book takes you on an adventure into the depths of the American streets and through the depths of your heart!
Let Yourself Be Challenged
This is my second copy of this book that I have purchased for myself....I lent my first copy out and it never found it's way back home.....but it is THAT good that I would want to have it in my library !!!
Mike takes us through America and shows us in some very small way what it would be like to be homeless, to be marginalized, to be "less than human"........and it challenges us to change not only our outlook but our reaction. This is a "must read" for teens and adults alike. It is an easy read and yet you will find yourself pausing and reflecting and will find it is a book you will read more than once.
Great narrative about two young men's experiences on the streets
I just finished reading this book. I found it engaging and compelling.
It mostly reads as a narrative of the two men's experiences, but mixed in are some highly compelling (and convicting) observations about how we ought, as Christians, respond to the problem of the poor, and specifically the homeless.
I'm located in San Diego, and our church just launched an outreach to the homeless downtown, which has been the most incredible ministry experience in my life (and I've done various types of recovery ministry for the last 15 years.) It's definitely for those who feel a calling (not everybody), but I appreciated the book because it moved my heart closer to the homeless and opened up a compassion and mercy I had not ever felt before.
