Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon

Summary

After the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina, and the manmade horror of the explosion at the vampire summit, Sookie Stackhouse is safe but dazed, yearning for things to get back to normal. But her boyfriend Quinn is among the missing. And things are changing, whether the weres and vamps in her corner of Louisiana like it or not. In the ensuing battles, Sookie faces danger, death…and once more, betrayal by someone she loves. And when the fur has finished flying and the cold blood ceases flowing, her world will be forever altered.

A little boring to be so deep in the series

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

I liked this book because I am devoted to the series, but I found this one to be a little boring to be so far and deep into the series. However, I think it is a difficult subject to tip toe around, so it might have removed some of the more dramatic and alternative plot lines available to Charlaine.

if you read this far into the series, you'll love this one just as much.

From Great to Awful

I bought the 8 box series of books, and if you see my other review was excited all the way through book 3. Not sure what happened after that. I had to "slog" my way through after book 4. I just finished "From Dead to Worse" and I am miffed that I took the time to read it. I read in one of the forwards from Charlaine Harris that she had someone who would be taking care of "continuity". Well, get your money back Ms. Harris, because there were so many blaring continuity issues I was almost ready to yell at the book! This series turned into a bad soap opera that refuses to even attempt to tie up any loose ends, yet makes so many mistakes you have to go back & check to see if you read what you read from the other books! I think I could have kept my suspension of belief if there would have been a point to many things that happen in this story. I don't want to spoil for those who have not read it, but many things happen that go absolutely nowhere. Unless she's gearing up for a few more books after the 9th one (which I'm not going to buy based on the reviews I've read & my experiences with the last few books of this series) I've completely lost all interest in Sookie & most of the main characters. Sookie annoys me. She goes through a bunch of trauma, then goes in to work. Yeah, I know the pace has to keep going, but c'mon! Sookie doesn't even hook up with Bill or Eric so if you're looking for that romance resolution, keep on waiting. Quinn, not even sure what that whole thing was about. Would have enjoyed more uncomfortable moments of Sookie's love triangle (quadrangle including Quinn, pentangle including Alcide, oh and maybe even Sam too?)that Harris has set her heroine perfectly up to have, yet none of them ever come to fruition. It's almost like "okay, here's the set up for everything, now let's forget that COMPLETELY, and go on to something else. What a waste of work for Harris. She had all the elements in place but did not deliver. Bad editing, bad advice, publisher's requests? I don't know, but I won't be holding my breath. I'm sure someone will Tweet me when Sookie makes a decision & stops whining. Oh, and Sookie's failure to form any relationships with men/vamps/supes is really annoying considering everyone that sees her falls madly in love with her. You'd think she was a homely spinster the way she spends her time when she's not being beaten up by creatures or trying to heal from a beating. Oh, and throwing in random family members & making up some outlandish tale (that "Gran" most definitely would have told Sookie about when she began dating Bill)totally killed any desire I have to read anything further in this series. I like VAMPIRES in VAMPIRE books. There are more "other things" in most of the books after the first two that I'm just not interested in (not a werewolf, maenad, whatever weird creature insert here, fan). If the creatures were there to move the plot forward with Bill, Eric, Sookie, etc. there would be a point to them, but there just is no point.

Sookie's story continues to pull you into her story and waiting for more!

I love the Sookie stories and can't wait to read the next one (borrowing it from a friend this weekend!). The first half of this book grabbed me - interesting tension and changes in the were community, Sam continues to be an awesome friend for Sookie, not much Quinn (sad about the way that story line went), a bit of Eric (love where that story line is going), a bit of Bill (where is this going to go?), the vampire queen/king control issue reaches a head, Sookies finds a "long lost family member" and Jason, of course, is in the middle of more issues. Things got a bit slow during the final 1/4 of the book but the last 2 pages set up an interesting storyline! This book wasn't my favorite of the series but it was enjoyable and I read it in a day or two.

Can't put these books down!

I liked the True Blood series so I found the books online and ordered a few. I found that I was fascinated by the characters and story lines, even more than the series. I can't stop reading. It is such an interesting way to think about the world, and it makes you want to jump into the book. I think real life seems a little dull at the moment.

I've now bought all the rest of the Stackhouse books and some of Harris' other books which I'll save for when I am mourning the end of the Stackhouse novels. I just bought the Stackhouse books in Spanish, too, so I can brush up on my Spanish. I thought that would be fun after I read the English version through a second time.

I read all the time and I've never enjoyed a book more. I hope Harris will write a few more.
