Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummarySome believe Bedford, Maine, is cursed. Its bloody past, endless rain, and the decay of its downtown portend a hopeless future. With the death of its paper mill, Bedford's unemployed residents soon find themselves with far too much time to dwell on thoughts of Susan Marley. Once the local beauty, she's now the local whore. Silently prowling the muddy streets, she watches eerily from the shadows, waiting for . . . something. And haunting the sleep of everyone in town with monstrous visions of violence and horror. Those who are able will leave Bedford before the darkness fully ascends. But those who are trapped here—from Susan Marley's long-suffering mother and younger sister to her guilt-ridden, alcoholic ex-lover to the destitute and faithless with nowhere else to go—will soon know the fullest and most terrible meaning of nightmare. |
Customer Reviews
keeper? not!
"be glad, very glad that your eyes aren't blue." not my idea of a plot.
gave it a fair try
i can appreciate most genres in books but i cannot believe this was ever put in print. i found it to be mind numbing in stupidty and i dont know what its purpose is. what a waste of my time.
The Keeper by Sarah Langdon
This is a book not worth reading. I struggled through the last chapters.

Creepy story with interesting characters
I had gotten this book because it was a Kindle freebie. When I started reading it, I wasn't sure I would finish it. However, the story really stuck with me and I stayed up at night reading chapter after chapter. (The fact that there was non-stop rain where I live added to the creepiness of reading this story!) This wasn't what I would normally read but it did turn out to be a good book!
2.5 Stars for a (somewhat) spooky tale
2.5 stars
A dark tale of a small town and its inhabitants. The story is focused on the Marley family, a defunct paper mill, and how the residents of this depressing small town get caught up in horrific events. The story fits somewhere in between a witch tale, a ghost story, and a family drama.
The story was quite slow to start, as it didn't really pick up until half way through. The author took quite some time to establish the characters, which was good for characterization, but boring for plot. There were just too many supporting characters that were overdeveloped for their roles in the plot. The last portion of the book was a bit rushed, so the pace of the overall book was poorly balanced.
However, I will say that I did find myself connected with the protagonist (Liz Marley) of the story, and was hoping she would make it through to see some sort of happy ending in this dark tale. However, I won't spoil it for those that plan to read it. The author shows great promise, but I wouldn't have read this book if I wasn't in the mood for a scary story for Halloween... and if I hadn't gotten it for free on my Kindle.
