Average Rating:
ok book
This is a fairly good book, goes over all the principals of drywall. Gave most of the info you needed. Could have used some more and better photos for mudding.
Amazing
I have this book and I have also seen his DVD (got it from the library) on the same subject. He is amazing. He makes this work look so easy and simple but he also explains it in terms that anyone can understand. He has the skill to do the job but he also shares the little tips and tricks that you only learn from years of experience.
If you have a drywall project in your future either get the book or watch the DVD first. I watched the DVD a couple of times then I got the book as a reference. I made a some mistakes in my project but I was able to fix all of them and turn out a professional looking job thanks to the tips from this book.
Learn to Drywall the correct way
I wanted to do some projects myself around the house, and I figured I would start drywalling a bedroom. Well, I had no idea where to start until I bought this book. This book is priceless with its endless advice and its how-to's.
Buy this book if you want to drywall the right way.
Begin like a Pro
Good instructions with enphasis on detail. A good guide for me as I'm a know nothing about it.
Good book but poorly organized
This book has all the relevant information. My only issue with the book was how it was written. Please note that I have a pretty high IQ, was an Honors student in high school and college and I use to tutor English; so it's not a problem with my reading skills in any way.
I'm also a contractor so I have no lack of mechanical reasoning skills.
The book is written in the order in which you'd be doing drywalling. My problem is with the pictures in the book. I'd find myself reading the text and then I'd turn the page and there's a brief overview of what you're reading along with other techniques. I found myself reading the details in the pictures and then going back to the original text I was reading. It left for a 'broken up' reading experience.
Some books have a section entitled 'how to read this book'. That's what this book needs. It's just a tad bit poorly organized and I'm sure it may get a few readers confused or frustrated.
One section talked about Cement board (my specialty- I'm a tile contractor). It briefly talked about how to cut holes in cement board. Why it explained this I have no idea. This was a book about Drywall. It also had some contradicting information about cement board and moisture resistant drywall regarding wet areas. Stick to accurate information about drywall only!
Overall I liked the book and I felt it to be a worthy addition to my library- but found it poorly written and trying to cover too many topics in addition to drywalling.
