I was disapointed with the book. Didn't like the tone of how the book was written. Yes, it has lots of information but the way it is written is hard to read. I use it for a reference once in a while other wise it sits on my self. :(
Great book
This is a great book for those looking for an overview of self-sufficient living. While the author's perspective is that of Great Britain, the concepts are the same. The crop rotation plans, the plant guides, and the animal husbandry chapters are all applicable to life in the States. It's not an in-depth guide, but it covers a great many topics and is a worthwhile purchase. Even if you never get away from it all and do it yourself the book can help you fix up your back garden into a highly productive little parcel.
Great for learning to be self-sufficient
This is a very interesting book if you want to be self sufficient. I was mostly interested in the poultry section. I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to garden to raising livestock.
Great book for city slickers who dream of the simple life
My wife and I dream of living the simple life on an island somewhere in the Caribbean Sea. I picked this book up years ago with that in mind, and this book is easy to read, has great information about basic farming, windmills and many other things that are required (or help) when living the simple life. It include really good info graphics to go with the text as well as side-bar facts here and there, and it's very inspiring for those like me who are still living in the city. Highly recommended.
This book is fully sufficient
This book looks nice and has plenty of good pictures to look through. The explanations are well written.
I was looking for something a little different than what this book offers, but I am very impressed with it. There is a lot of good information to read.
The book itself is very specific to a lifestyle that is already focused on self sufficiency. It would be very good for someone who is already pretty self sufficient, or is on their way to becoming more self sufficient. It is not necessarily going to show you how to move right out of the city and into the countryside, but it will give you a good idea what to do when you get there.
