Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryRachel Ashwell created Shabby Chic: a peaceful, practical way of living that embraces a respect for the things in our lives we hold dear and keeps them at the heart of our homes. Romantic florals reclining against pure white linen, ruffles of muslin skirting a bed base against bleached floorboards, the deep comfort of a simple nest of fluffy towels - This is Rachel Ashwell's signature style that for the past 20 years has been a major influence in our modern lives. "Shabby Chic Interiors - My Rooms, Treasures and Trinkets", an eclectic book of quirky inspiration, falls into chapters according to location, and begins with Rachel's breathtaking Los Angeles residence. Next, we wander into a photographer's minimalist mountain-top home in the Hollywood hills before heading to the coast and a beautiful Malibu beach cottage. A truly bohemian hideout in southern California is next on the journey, followed by a peek at celebrity homes, including the house that once belonged to Marilyn Monroe. With rooms combining flea-market finds and objects of pure functionality - an elegant French mirror reflecting a painting, a bejewelled metallic candle holder sitting by a cluster of willow-patterned china, a single faded velvet pillow lounging under the twinkle of a vintage chandelier - this book celebrates all that is wonderfully Shabby Chic. |

So Pretty!
I've enjoyed this book so much...beautiful photography, inspiring words. I've enjoyed seeing Rachel's style evolve just a bit, while mainly staying true to her roots.
Rather disappointing
I have loved Shabby Chic for years, and was very excited when I saw this new book coming out. Once I started looking at it, however, I have to say I was very disappointed. I understand how a persons taste and style can change and evolve, but from what I now see in Rachel Ashwell's home, her taste has turned to junk. What happened to the beautiful floral fabrics and antique mismatched china? The beautiful crystal prisms hanging off candle holders and lights? Those were the types of things that drew me into Shabby Chic to begin with and what I still love about that look. From what I see now, and how she's decorating, it looks like Shabby Junk, and I see nothing chic about it. Most of her furnishings look a tad bit like garage sale rejects. The style and elegance that used to go hand in hand with the name Rachel Ashwell, has sadly, been replaced with tacky furnishings that I wouldn't give a nickle for. There is nothing in this book that resembles the Shabby Chic look and style from the past. Don't bother with this book if that's what you're looking for.
Lovely and personal
My favorite book of hers to date. Love the bigger size and gorgeous pics. The text is wonderful and personal as well and I've read it cover to cover twice already.
Beautiful masterpiece
Rachel did it again!!! After much anticipation...Once again a beautiful and wonderful book to sit down and relax with. I have been inspired once again with her ideas. I consider her an inspiration to all that wants a relaxing and romantic style...Thanks Rachel!!!!
She repeats herself!
I pre-ordered my book & was overjoyed when it finally arrived!
The pictures are good, but rather boring & it is like Rachel is stuck in the past!
I guess, I assumed that Shabby Chic, once again, would have something new & inspiring to offer, but this book is only a repeat from the other books.
Her stores has closed all over the country & shows that her customers have changed their taste, or moved away from Shabby Chic entirely;- maybe I have too......
