Book of Fair Isle Knitting by Alice Starmore
Waited a long time for this book to be reprinted, it was well worth the wait. The history of Fair Isle is well researched and takes the reader back to times of old. The technical instructions and the large stage by stage diagrams are easy to follow. A great selection of charts. Her writing and style are excellent, making it a good all round reference book and an enjoyable read. Highly recommended for any knitters library.
Great Resource
Anything with Alice Starmore's name attached to it is a good bet for knitters. This book is a wonderful resource of Fair Isle patterns, history and knitting techniques. There is an excellent section on color and 40 pages of wonderful patterns - - sweaters, hats, mittens and more. There is also a section on creating your own designs. This book is a reprint. I have the original book and this one. They are identical. I highly recommend this book for any knitter interested in Fair Isle knitting. It makes me want to take the next plane to the Shetland Isles.
back in print WOOHOO!
I just saw that this is coming back into print in paperback. HOORAY!! I no longer have to treat my old hardcover version like the sacred text it is; I can put that away for safe-keeping and get a second copy to haul around. One of the absolute best fair isle pattern and design books ever. You will not regret adding this to your knitting library.
