Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryIn this age of do-it-yourself health care (heck, if the doctor only sees you for 10 minutes each visit, what other options are there?), Change Your Brain, Change Your Life fits in perfectly. Filled with "brain prescriptions" (among them cognitive exercises and nutritional advice) that are geared toward readers who've experienced anxiety, depression, impulsiveness, excessive anger or worry, and obsessive behavior, Change Your Brain, Change Your Life milks the mind-body connection for all it's worth. Written by a psychiatrist and neuroscientist who has also authored a book on attention deficit disorder, Change Your Brain contains dozens of brain scans of patients with various neurological problems, from caffeine, nicotine, and heroin addiction to manic-depression to epilepsy. These scans, often showing large gaps in neurological activity or areas of extreme overactivity, are downright frightening to look at, and Dr. Amen should know better than to resort to such scare tactics. But he should also be commended for advocating natural remedies, including deep breathing, guided imagery, meditation, self-hypnosis, and biofeedback for treating disorders that are so frequently dealt with by prescription only. |

Must read for self improvement
This book delves into the reality of managing your own mind and gives you incite to the way others act and feel. Many people would be bored with this book as it is certainly not a novel. But if you want to learn about yourself and know how to be happy then it is a must read. It shows ways to diagnose your own feelings and gives answers about changing those feelings to be positive.
Really is true
This book was purchased to try to polish some personal brain skills. The techniques worked very well and are effective. It was a bit of a dry read at times and I had to force my way thru. After I found the section I needed at 2/3 or 3/4 the way thru, it went back onto the shelf until I have another question one day. Very pleased I bought it, and it works.
Exactly as presented.
Dr. Amen is the real deal. I have a master's degree in Pscychology and his research and analysis is very comprehensive.
Change Your Brain, Change Your Life
Change Your Brain, Chain Your Life definitely lived up to what I expected. It takes a positive approach to explaining the effects of various influences in your life. I have already recommended it to several friends.
Excellent Resource Book
I find the book CHANGE YOUR BRAIN, CHANGE YOUR LIFE so impressive that I plan to buy more copies to give to family and friends. Dr. Amen includes sound, verifiable medical research about the complex human brain that is easily understood by laypeople, such as I. He identifies many common but burdensome conditions such as ADD, OCD, Worry, Anxiety, Fear, Motivation, Control, etc. along with more complex mental diseases and offers concrete recommendations. The strategies for killing ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts) are excellent. Other techniques are life-enriching. I highly recommend this book for family concerns, educators (my field), and obviously, medical professionals. He writes with personal observations and gracious understanding.
