Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryA Gentleman Gets Dressed Up is not a book about style--it is a book about the rules--rules that will allow any man to feel more comfortable in the choices he makes about what he wears. It answers such questions as: What does black tie optional mean? What do I wear to a wedding at 7: 00 on a Saturday evening? What do I wear to a job interview? What do I wear to a second interview, even if they observe a casual dress code? What do I wear to the Academy Awards? What do I wear to a funeral? And what button do I leave open on my suit coat? This GentleManners book is divided into sections about specific items of clothing and specific accessories. It also delves into the different types of events to which a gentleman may find himself invited. The book concludes with sections on extreme etiquette, such as what to wear to meet the pope, and a section on fashion emergencies, such as what to do when your pants split.

Nice book
The details in this book must be known by any Gentleman... Therefore, I highly recommend all Gentleman to read this interesting book.
Good Reference
My husband saw this book at a high end clothing store, but didn't want to buy such a frivolous book, so I bought it for him for his birthday! He's really enjoyed reading parts of it. He is a more recent college graduate and newer to the business world, so this has helped him tweak his wardrobe to fit every occasion.
So little substance...
I read this entire book in under one hour. It is so limited in its focus and provides so little useful commentary that I really can't recommend it. There are some funny moments and an occassional piece of useful advice, but for the most part, it just isn't worth your time or money.
A good guide, especially if you're out for self-improvement
In the service dress is usually decided for you. This book explains the do's and don'ts of a gentleman's wardrobe, what sort of clothes the gentleman should look for and when to wear them. I really enjoyed this book, and it even has illustrations on how to tie different tie knots (I know how to tie one but I didn't realize the knot I was using had a name). Well worth the time and effort to get.
Simplistic
I was expecting a more detailed description of traditional menswear and the correct way to wear things, with illustrations. Instead it was a book of homilies "A gentleman always ....' and "a gentleman never.....", albeit with some humor. There wasn't much I didn't already know.
