Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon

Summary

Based on his father's bestselling The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Sean Covey applies the same principles to teens, using a vivacious, entertaining style. To keep it fun, Covey writes, he "stuffed it full of cartoons, clever ideas, great quotes, and incredible stories about real teens from all over the world... along with a few other surprises." Did he ever! Flip open to any page and become instantly absorbed in real-life stories of teens who have overcome obstacles to succeed, and step-by-step guides to shifting paradigms, building equity in "relationship bank accounts," creating action plans, and much more.

As a self-acknowledged guinea pig for many of his dad's theories, Sean Covey is a living example of someone who has taken each of the seven habits to heart: be proactive; begin with the end in mind; put first things first; think win-win; seek first to understand, then to be understood; synergize; and sharpen the saw. He includes a comical section titled "The 7 Habits of Highly Defective Teens," which includes some, shall we say, counterproductive practices: put first things last; don't cooperate; seek first to talk, then pretend to listen; wear yourself out... Covey's humorous and up-front style is just light enough to be acceptable to wary teenagers, and down-and-dirty enough to really make a difference. (Ages 13 and older) --Emilie Coulter

The 7 Habitis of Highly Effective Teens

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

A while back I worked for a school for struggling teens, and this was recommended reading for the students and I decided to pick it up to see what it was all about and loved the way the material was presented. At that time my daughter was about four and was irrelevant to her so after reading it for my job I just put the title back on the shelf and just remembered the title when my daughter became fourteen. I re-read this book and decided to give it to my daughter before the struggling began and boy am I glad I did. The format is great for her and she devoured the book. She seems more confident and sure of her self as Sean Covey uncovers the secret of way teens deal with today's issues in their lives. It is a fun to read book for teenager to read and uses language that is appropriate for them. It is starting to open line of communications between the two of us and that feels great.

7 Habits Miniature Edition

Rating: Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3

I was a goof and didn't realize it was the miniature edition because the picture was deceiving. The picture is not that of the miniature edition, and I was looking for the full version.

Fantastic

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

This book is such a great book. I'm using it with a group of high school juniors and seniors as a textbook for a course. The course helps students with disabilities plan for their future.

This book has made some of my students realize that they can do anything they put their minds to and/or how to seek out help.

Not quite the same

Rating: Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3 Score = 3

I bought this miniature addition, intending to give it as a gift, but discovered when it arrived that it was not the complete edition of the original book. I really wanted the whole book, so unfortunately, I had to return it.

Incredible teaching tool

Rating: Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

I use this book as part of the Strategies for Success Curriculum. It is a powerful teaching tool to assist students as they are working to establish themselves as successful contributing members of society. Simple habits can absolutely make an incredible difference to us as we interact with others in society. We have options regarding how we behave. While the 7 Habits are not brand-new ideas, however, for most students and even adults, these habits can help us be truly effective.
