Summary

The multitudes of Gary Paulsen fans (or more accurately, Brian fans) will be thrilled to find that the author has penned yet another story about Brian Robeson. Although Paulsen once claimed that he would "write no more about Brian," he seems to have been softened by the "staggering amounts of mail from readers" begging for more about the teen who is more at home alone in the wilderness than in the hustle and bustle of city life. In Brian’s Hunt, the 16-year-old returns to the remote woods and lakes of Canada, where he encounters a mysteriously injured dog. His experiences two years earlier, after surviving a plane crash and months alone with only a hatchet to protect and provide for himself (Hatchet, Brian’s Winter, etc.), have prepared him well to survive now. But can anything prime him for the horror that awaits him on an island campsite where he intends to meet his Cree friends?

This short episode is rife with the kind of gritty--even gruesome--details readers have come to expect from the Newbery Honor author. In an afterword, Paulsen reminds readers that he bases his stories on personal experiences and his extensive knowledge of the wild side of nature.

Confidential to avid fans: an intimation of romance amid all the rugged drama hints that this will not be the last Brian book, either. (Ages 10 to 13) --Emilie Coulter

The Hunt

How would you like to go and live in the wilderness for a while? Well that's what Brian does in Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulson. I like this book because it's only 103 pages, but it packs a lot of adventure.
Brian's Hunt is about how Brian's wilderness skills are tested again in the third book of the Brian series. The first part of this book is how Brian decides to take some days off at school and go canoeing to an Indian camp by a lake in the wilderness. On his way there he heard this noise one night, so he paddles over and sees an injured dog so he fixes the dog up and brings her with him to the Indian camp which finds destroyed by the same thing that injured the dog. After a day of searching he finds a survivor who tells him where the horrible thing is. So Brian finally in rage sets out to kill it. But will it kill him first?
My favorite part of the book is when he finds the injured dog and goes after what injured it. The reason why I liked this part was because it was suspenseful because you didn't know what hurt the dog.
The most important thing I learned from this book is that the wilderness is so unpredictable because you can never count on there being food, water and shelter unless you bring your own.
I would also suggest reading Hatchet (the first of Brian's adventures) and Brian's Winter (the second book of Brian's adventures) because they are both very good books.
You should read Brian's Hunt, one of the best action and adventure books I've read. You should also read it because I'm not going to tell you what the surprise is.
So Read It!

Brian's Hunt
Gary Paulsen
Random House
Realistic Fiction

This book is so good that you'll beg the author to make another one. Brian's Hunt made possible by Gary Paulsen is an awesome book part of the Hatchet series. In this exciting book Brian who once was lost in the Canadian woods,(and while he was there he changed) decides to go back only having a canoe, fishing supplies, some weapons to kill game, and a little food. While he was there he finds a dog. The dog has a gash in his leg,but Brian fixes it,but the way the gash is Brian can't do any thing but wonder about it. Brian and the dog set out on a adventurer north. Along the way Brian sees things that he will never forget. He discovers a bear is the one who has caused the gash on the dogs leg and all the other disastrous things brain sees. He sets out to kill the bear with the dog and his supplies, but the question is can he do it.

In Brian Hunt there is two main characters Brian and the dog. Brian acts tough in the book. He also acts sad. He uses his strength to hunt, get though the sad times, and kill a wild bear. The dog is also strong, hes sad sometimes, and hes always hungry. But Brian and the dog fight though hard times. Together they make a great team.

The book Brian's Hunt is a book like no other. The thing I like about this book is that he hunts. So I'd recommend it to people that like the out doors. The mood of this this book is so hard to explain because there is so many moods. At one moment he could be happy and then the next he could be sad. If you like Hatchet then you will like this book because they are a part of the same series. I'd recommend this book to people who like to hunt and adventures. I think 4th 5th and 6th graders would like this. Trust me once you pick this book up you won't want to put it down.

My fifth-grade students love this series. I've used Gary Paulsen's "Hatchet" series to hook boys into reading. They love the outdoor adventure genre, and can't stop reading once they've started!

What if you were a boy that was in the forest since you liked it there, knew how to hunt, and found out that two of your friends were dead? How would you feel? Would you feel scared at what happened? Would you be mad at the killers? Thats how Brian felt.

Brian is a boy who once was in a plane that crashed into the forest and had to survive in the forest. This takes place after his plane crash in the forest.

The main idea of this book is to show how Brian goes into the forest again and finds out that two of his friends are killed. The meaning of the title Brian's Hunt means this is his hunt. He goes on a hunting trip and just lives in the forest for a bit more. Once he finds out his friends have been killed, he starts hunting for the killer.

My opinion of this book is actually an easy read because the font is big and the if you just read you might get through 2-3 chapters. I would recommend this book to 3rd of 4th graders. The pacing of this book is slow in the begining and fast at the end of the book. This book is in a Christian perspective because it doesn't talk about anything demonic or evil.
