Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryAmazon Best of the Month, February 2008: From as early as grade school, the world seemed to be on Nic Sheff's string. Bright and athletic, he excelled in any setting and appeared destined for greatness. Yet as childhood exuberance faded into teenage angst, the precocious boy found himself going down a much different path. Seduced by the illicit world of drugs and alcohol, he quickly found himself caught in the clutches of addiction. Beautiful Boy is Nic's story, but from the perspective of his father, David. Achingly honest, it chronicles the betrayal, pain, and terrifying question marks that haunt the loved ones of an addict. Many respond to addiction with a painful oath of silence, but David Sheff opens up personal wounds to reinforce that it is a disease, and must be treated as such. Most importantly, his journey provides those in similar situations with a commodity that they can never lose: hope --Dave Callanan |

Average Rating:
"beautiful boy" is beautifully written and inspiring
David Sheff's story of his own son's addiction is incredibly well written. He recalls each anecdote from his son's past that curves into his reasoning for his son's addiction. He is a father who had to deal with understanding his son's addiction and wondering, is he going to be okay? How can he help him? It seems that as he was writing this book, he was also discovering and linking and connecting why his son turned to drugs. As I was reading his book, and his thoughts I could relate as being a teenager myself, and thinking about what or how my parents would react if they were put into the same position. This book is very easy to read and relate to, and can help many struggling teens and or parents who's own kids are suffering from drug addiction.
A must buy for any parent of an addict
I absolutely loved this book! I cried, I laughed, I sympathized and I totally understood all of the emotions the author was feeling. I too have a child who is a recovering (finally!) meth addict and always felt so alone. I read this book at a very low time in my life and realized I was doing everything I could for my child and that with a little help from above I could survive this rollercoaster.

Great buy! I read it when I first saw it advertised at a starbucks years ago. When I found out a friend was in a rehab, struggling with addiction, I bought it for his father. The book came in excellent condition and quicker than expected! being a book fiend, i <3 amazon
Wonderful
I just finished Beautiful Boy by David Sheff and I cannot begin to say what this book has given me. I am in the middle of a eerily similar situation to the one David writes about and he is able to so eloquently put a name to so many of the emotions I have been having. David is a beautiful writer and from his book you are able to feel the pain he is experiencing and understand what he takes away from the situation. I commend him for his bravery and his courage to face this problem and to try his best to better himself and his family despite it.
I also just received Tweak in the mail and I cannot wait to start that as well. I am interested to begin the story again, from an entirely different side, and to see what I can gain from it.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone with an addict in their family. It gives such great insight into a situation that is not unique and truly makes you know you are not alone.
