Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryThe Real George Washington: The True Story of America s Most Indispensable Man There is properly no history; only biography, wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. If that is true of the general run of mankind, it is particularly true of George Washington. The story of his life is the story of the founding of America. His was the dominant personality in three of the most critical events in that founding: the Revolutionary War, the Constitutional Convention, and the first national administration. Had he not served as America s leader in those three events, all three would likely have failed. And America as we know it today would not exist. Why, after two centuries, does George Washington remain one of the most beloved figures in our history? The Real George Washington answers that question by giving us a close look at this man who became the father of our country and the first American President. But rather than focus on the interpretations of historians, the books tells much of his exciting story in his own words. The second part of this 928-page book brings together the most important and insightful passages from Washington s writings, conveniently arranged by subject. Published by National Center for Constitutional Studies, a non-profit organization. The Real George Washington
I haven't gotten to finish the entire book yet but so far it's great. The book provides facts that every freedom loving United States citizen should know. I've recommended it to all my friends.
Patriotism Defined
Sadly, I had long forgotten the details of this nations simple, humble beginnings and the major role played by George Washington. I am so grateful to the author for presenting the birth of our nation and the life of George Washington in clear, concise and understandable writing. This book has renewed my patriotic senses and appreciation for the roots of this great country. We hear a lot of double talk these days about patriotism but few really conceive of the true meaning.
I highly recommend this extraordinary book.
More people need to read about Washington
In a times like the present, when government only has the interest of itself in mind, more people need to turn to books like this. Though the story line does drift away from the main points at times you clearly see the intentions of the drifting. A thorough history of men like Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin should be known by all politicians before entering office. Obviously these days all politicians desire is power for themselves.
The Most Influential Man in American History!
Washington's life is a great story that had an even greater impact on the direction of the USA. Although at times a pinch shallow on the detail... when taken in the scope of the 613 pages of his life's story and the additional 300 pages of topical quotes, it is understandable that some of the stories weren't peppered with all of the near-unbelievable details. This was an amazing and delightful read.
History written for readers
History is not dull and dry; it is made to seem thus by "scholarly" writers writing in the verbose style of academia. If you struggled in high school or collage history because the texts were impenetrable, this book will open the excitement of history. It is written in a direct, narrative style that animates the story of America's foremost war hero; you hate to stop reading!
