Summaries and Customer Reviews provided by Amazon
SummaryBook Description Kathy Griffin has won Emmys for her reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, been nominated for a Grammy, worked and walked every red carpet known to man, and rung in the New Year with Anderson Cooper. But the legions of fans who pack Kathy’s sold-out comedy shows have heard only part of her remarkable story. Writing with her trademark wit, the feisty comic settles a few old scores, celebrates the friends and mentors who helped her claw her way to the top, and shares insider gossip about celebrity behavior—the good, the bad, and the very ugly. She recounts the crazy ups and downs of her own career and introduces us to some of the supertalented people she encountered before they got famous (or, in some cases, after fame went to their heads). Word to the wise: If you’ve ever crossed Kathy Griffin at some point in your life, check the index for your name. Along the way, Kathy reveals intimate details about her life before and after she made the big time. She opens up about everything from growing up with a dysfunctional family in suburban Illinois to bombing as a young comedian in L.A., from her well-publicized plastic surgery disasters to her highly publicized divorce, and more. Only in this book will you learn how the dinner table is the best training ground for a career in stand-up, how speaking your mind can bite you on the ass and buy you a house, and which people in Kathy’s life have taught her the most valuable lessons—both inside and outside the entertainment industry. Refreshingly candid, unflinchingly honest, and full of hilarious “Did she really say that?” moments, Official Book Club Selection will make you laugh until you cry, or just puke up a little bit. |

A GOOD READ WITH LOTS OF SURPRISES...
THIS BOOK WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. I AM A KATHY FAN, LOVE THE D LIST, BUT THIS BOOK WAS A LITTLE SHOCKING. IT IS WAY MORE SERIOUS THAN I EXPECTED. THERE ARE MANY LAUGHS BUT I HAD NEVER REALZED HOW MUCH HURT THIS WOMAN HAS ENDURED. I NOW KNOW WHY SHE FOUND IT SO NECESSARY TO MAKE A LIVING CREATING LAUGHS. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A COVERUP TO HERE TEARS. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY KATHY FAN WHO WOULD LIKE A LITTLE GLIMPSE INTO WHAT MAKES HER TICK!
Hilarious!
I couldn't put this book down. I have in the last couple of years become a fan of Kathy Griffin and her in-your-face humor. I dig someone who tells it like it is and does not hold back. I also enjoy the absurdity of celebrity, so in some parallel universe we should be best friends. This book was so real and raw. I had no idea that she worked so hard to get where she is today. She literally had to fight tooth and nail, and she still is. I admire her for opening up on everything. She really did not hold back when it came to her own personal flaws as well as her family's. The best part was how funny this memoir was. I lost count at how many times I laughed out loud, and not just chuckling, but falling out of my chair laughing. Anyone who picks this one up will see a whole new side of Kathy Griffin, in addition to the witty, nutty, and hysterical kook that she is. Loved this!
Ha Ha Ha
This is a great read. It's fascinating to see where a person has come from - all the things that people go through that make up the person they are today. It's funny, I hear Kathy's voice in my head when I'm reading the book.
Couldn't put it down!!
Highly recommend this book ~ loved it! A great story of struggling to be a success in show biz. I love Kathy Griffin's comedy, been to her shows, watch the D-List on TV, so I didn't think the book would add anything new. I was wrong, it is a great story of her life, family, friends, successes and failures, struggles in life. I couldn't put it down. It really shows you all the personal aspects of her life that affect her everyday. It was hilarious at times, touching at others. Great read and if you're a fan of Kathy's, you will definitely love this book.
The Real Side of Kathy Griffin!!
I love this book and everything Kathy has to say. I really feel like I get to know how she became to be the person she is today. Please buy this book, it's worth it!
Official Book Club Selection is Kathy Griffin unplugged, uncensored, and unafraid to dish about what really happens on the road, away from the cameras, and at the star party after the show. (It’s also her big chance to score that coveted book club endorsement she’s always wanted. Are you there, Oprah? It’s me, Kathy.)
